Yellow Jade, High Mountain Oolong, Taiwan

Higher oxidised (25%) High Mountain Oolong from Jade Mountain, Taiwan. April 2022 Harvest.

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

This High Mountain Oolong of the Qingxin Cultivar was grown 100% organic, tucked away in the Jade mountain massive (the highest mountain in Taiwan) at around 1200-1400m. It is very hard to find organic tea in the higher mountains, as only 0,8% of the high mountain Oolongs are made organically according to the Tse-Xin Organic (TOAF) organisation. Our Yellow Jade is a little higher oxidised but still on the light side with approx. 20-25% oxidisation (compared to the now more common 10-15%), which makes the taste very round and full. We recommend spring water and a Gaiwan or Gongfu tea pot for preparation.

The farmer Chen Rong Ji is a very down-to-earth guy, he is comparably new to the organic side of tea – they changed the farm to organic around 20 years ago – but the unique position of the tea at a very remote patch in the mountains without any neighbours makes the place unique. The drive up the mountain from the tea processing place takes you 35 min on small, narrow dirt roads up to about 1200-1400 m altitude. The farm itself is only surrounded by jungle and the harvest is 2-3 times per year depending on the climate. We will release a slightly roasted version of this tea as well.

Notes of honey sweetness, strawberries.
